Watsonia North Primary School needed a fresh, modern look.

The logo was dated, materials were inconsistent and there was no system holding it together. With new facilities and programs in place, the school needed an identity that felt as strong as the community it represented.

The Approach

The new identity draws inspiration from the Manna Gum Tree at the heart of the school's new 5/6 building. Its delicate flowers became the focal point of the logo, forming a visual language rooted in the school's own environment.

The existing maroon and gold palette was retained and complementary colours introduced to modernise the tone. Typography was standardised using a single-story "a" to align with Victorian Curriculum handwriting.

Professional photography showcases the school's facilities and community, while bespoke illustrations including a reimagined kookaburra nodding to the previous logo add character and playfulness. Some of the illustrations were commissioned from a local Melbourne artist.

Together these elements form a flexible, cohesive identity system built to work consistently across every touchpoint.

The Results

From wayfinding and signage to uniforms, stationery, posters and the school website, the identity carries through with clarity and consistency.

Staff and family feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The school now has a brand that feels professional, approachable and genuinely reflective of the community it serves.

"This year, we undertook an exciting brand initiative, a chance to refresh how we present ourselves to the community and to ensure our identity reflects who we are today.

Through this work, our visual identity, messaging and values have been aligned, giving us a shared language and a renewed sense of pride in the story we tell about our school.

This process has reminded us that branding is not just about colours and logos, it's about culture, purpose and the way we show up for our students and families each day."
